UNEARTHED READING with Local Poets

November 17 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

On Tuesday, November 17, join the museum and Colin Criss for a reading with local poets in response to Jim Hodges’ “Unearthed”.

UNEARTHED READING with Local Poets
Organized by Colin Criss, Assistant Professor, Honors College
6:00-7:00pm
Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU

Jim Hodges’ Unearthed (a work in progress) is a monumental bronze cast of an uprooted tree stump. The truncated form resonates with majesty while also serving as a mournful reminder of humankind’s impact upon the natural world. It has been displayed only once before, in 2019 in Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, where it was accompanied by rites of faith, musical performances, and readings, as well as by a community’s presence, participation, and social interaction. Unearthed has its second residency at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at Washington State University, providing the academic and regional community an occasion to approach the work through intentional participation.

Join us for a special performance series with Unearthed this fall 2026, including music, readings, and dance. On Tuesday, November 17 local writers gather at the museum to share words in response Unearthed (a work in progress) by artist Jim Hodges, led by Honors College professor and poet Colin Criss. Participating writers include Alexandra Teague, Michael McGriff, Devin Becker, Emma Perry, Cameron McGill, Linda Russo, Miriam Åkervall, and Tod Marshall.

Free and open to the public.
