Create a zine that expresses something about the things you LOVE

Workshop
Saturday, February 8, 2025, 1:00-3:00pm
Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU
Workshop is full, but you may register for the waitlist using this Qualtrics Survey

During this workshop we will talk about love and receive an introduction to zines: What is a zine and how do you make one? Using current museum exhibitions, we will discuss artists and makers who use similar themes and feelings in their work. Finally, we will be challenged to create a zine that expresses something about things you LOVE with creative words and images. We will use mixed media processes including collage, free form poetry, illustrations, and more. All are welcome: Enjoy a relaxing workshop and make loving and tender artworks inspired by love.

This workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required (see above). Up to 20 people may register. When registration is full, a waitlist will be activated and waitlisted individuals will be contacted.

Funding for this program is provided by the David G. Pollart Center for Arts and Humanities.

About the Artist | This workshop will be led by Scholarly Assistant Professor David Janssen Jr. from the Department of Art at WSU Pullman. Janssen enjoys communicating with others through drawing, painting, collage, and typographic experimentation. He creates paintings with found objects, designs posters, and publishes zines, merging a passion for graphic design and a variety of 2D media. Mixing processes and materials—both by hand and digitally—is a rewarding challenge that keeps his creative process forgiving, heartfelt, and unpredictable. David Janssen Jr.’s art is featured in the current exhibition, Your Collection: Faculty Remix, which on view January 14 through June 28, 2025.

Workshops offer adults an opportunity to explore artmedia or art concepts under the guidance of a practicing artist and in connection with a theme from the current exhibitions.
