DESCRIPTION:Sign up for workshops 2 and 3 in the Gender Expression Through Cyanotype Series.\nRegister Here for Workshops 2 and 3! \nGender Expression Through Cyanotype Workshop: Workshop 2–Cyanotype Substrates & Film Negatives\nFriday\, July 10\, 2026\, 3:00pm-6:00pm\nMeet at the entrance to the Department of Fine Arts WSU\, Pullman\, WA\n \nLearn the process of mixing cyanotype chemicals and coating materials to print on. Cyanotype chemicals and watercolor paper to be coated for printing will be provided as well as other supplies needed to coat the paper. If participants would like to coat fabric\, please bring it to the workshop: coat any natural fiber\, such as cotton\, silk\, linen\, etc. in cyanotype solution. After coating materials\, participants will be introduced to activities that will inspire exploration of different types of portrait photography. Each person will also learn how to turn images into photographic film negatives. \nGender Expression Through Cyanotype Workshop: Workshop 3–Creating Cyanotype Prints\nFriday\, July 24\, 2026\, 3:00pm-6:00pm\nMeet at the Entrance\, \, Department of Fine Arts WSU\, Pullman\, WA \nParticipants will use their film negatives from workshop 2 and coated substrates (watercolor paper and/or fabric) with organic objects or other materials to create self-portraits in cyanotype. The rich blue and white prints will be created by arranging the film and objects on top of the coated substrate and exposing it to sunlight. This workshop will take place outside\, on the Fine Arts Plaza. \nSee the museum’s event calendar for additional workshops. Participants registered in workshops 2 and 3 are encouraged to register for workshop 4 on Monday\, July 27\, which covers matting\, framing\, curating and exhibiting artwork. Workshops are free and open to the public\, with registration required. See link above. \nFinished work from the Gender Expression Through Cyanotype Series will be on view at Greystone Grand Gallery during the month of August 2026 and a reception will take place August 21\, 2026\, 4:00-6:00pm. \nAbout the Instructor |  Nickolas Carl Hurlbut (he/they/any) is an interdisciplinary artist and MFA candidate at Washington State University mainly focusing on photography and ceramics. Hurlbut’s work explores queer identity and gender expression through film photography\, alternative photographic processes\, community-based installation art\, pottery\, and ceramic sculptures. \nFunding | Provided by a Publicly Engaged Fellowship from the David G. Pollart Center for Arts and Humanities. Grand Ave.\, Pullman\, WA \nRegister Here! \nParticipants will learn ways to mat and frame their work professionally for a gallery setting. One 16×20-inch frame and mat board will be provided for each participant. Participants will decide whether they wish to sell their work or list it as Not for Sale with guidance on pricing.
