DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday\, October 12th for a tour with dietitian Marissa Collier and a family-friendly activity led by museum staff\nFamily Friendly Activity: The Art of Food\n10:30am–12:00pm\nJordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU \nJoin us for stories and an art activity about cooking\, gardening\, culture\, and families\, with K-3 ages in mind. Older children and adults are also welcome to participate. One adult from your party should remain with children and young adults at all times as they participate in the activity. This is a drop-in program\, you may join us anytime between 10:30am-12:00pm. \nCommunity Perspectives Tour with Dietitian Marissa Collier\n11:00–11:45am\nJordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU \nJoin Marissa Collier to hear a dietitian’s perspective on selected artworks in The Art of Food: From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation. Marissa Collier has been a registered dietitian for 6 years. She has spent most of that time working as a clinical dietitian and is currently working as the Director of Nutrition and Diabetes Care at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow\, ID. Open discussion among tour participants will be encouraged throughout the tour and will be facilitated by Kristin Becker\, Curator of Education & Programs. \nCommunity Perspectives Tours invite individuals from our campus and wider community to speak about their unique interpretation of several works in the current exhibitions\, charting connections among art\, personal experience\, and different disciplines. \nThe activities and the tour are free and open to the public\, with donations welcome. \nMarissa Collier’s tour is a John Mathews Friel Memorial Art Lecture\, named for John Friel\, a 1962 WSU Fine Arts graduate. Funding for these programs is also provided by a grant from Jordan Schnitzer and The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation and the David G. DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, October 24th for the WSU Department of English Visiting Writers Series!\nVisiting Writers Series: Arisa White\n5:00pm–6:30pm\nJordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU and YouTube Stream \nAbout | Arisa White is an associate professor of English and Creative Writing at Colby College. She is the author of Who’s Your Daddy\, co-editor of Home Is Where You Queer Your Heart\,and co-author of Biddy Mason Speaks Up\, the second book in the Fighting for Justice Series for young readers. Her poetry is widely published\, and her collections have been nominated for an NAACP Image Award\, Lambda Literary Award\, and have won the Per Diem Poetry Prize\, Maine Literary Award\, Nautilus Book Award\, an Independent Publisher Book Award\, and Golden Crown Literary Award.  As the creator of the Beautiful Things Project\, Arisa curates poetic collaborations that are rooted in Black queer women’s ways of knowing. She is a Cave Canem fellow and serves on the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance Community Advisory Board. DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday\, October 25th for a talk in the Common Reading Series\nCommon Reading Program: Savoring Spokane: Exploring Its Iconic Eateries with Author Adriana Janovich\n12:00pm–1:00pm\nJordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU \nWhat makes a restaurant stand out from the rest? And how do you capture its essence in 400 words or fewer? Adriana Janovich\, author of Unique Eats and Eateries of Spokane: The People and Stories Behind the Food (Reedy Press\, 2024)\, discusses her process for researching Spokane restaurants from A to Zip’s Drive-In—and the people and stories behind them—for her new book. A longtime newspaper writer\, Janovich served as the food editor at the Spokane Spokesman-Review from 2013 to 2019 before coming to Washington State University as the associate editor at Washington State Magazine. \nBookPeople of Moscow will be selling copies of the book at this event. You may reserve a copy ahead of time via the BookPeople website. \nCommon Reading Series | The 2024-25 Common Reading Series at the museum is a collaboration between the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU and the WSU Common Reading Program.
