SUMMARY:Museum of Art/WSU Presents Curator’s Choice Exhibition: Behind the Scenes
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, the Museum of Art/WSU is proud to present Curator’s Choice Exhibition: Behind the Scenes\, May 20-July 3\, 2014  to its audiences\, offering them a rare glimpse of the various operations that allow the museum to present its world-class exhibitions. Admission to the museum is always free. \nMuseum staff will be revealing the hidden\, mysterious world behind the gallery walls by performing “back of house” curatorial tasks within the gallery space. Visitors will be able to observe and converse with Museum staff and student assistants as they work on collection preservation\, exhibition mounting\, documentation\, and inventory. This exhibit takes place during an age in which museums are seeking means to modify their core processes to become more transparent and participatory\, leading to an accessible and socially engaging experience for the viewer. \nSimultaneously\, the curatorial team and student assistants will be working with exhibition design strategies utilizing items from the Museum of Art/WSU permanent collection. Throughout this process\, the artwork displayed and modes of engagement will be constantly changing\, offering audiences the opportunity to view artworks from the permanent collection that are rarely seen. \nEach day will potentially offer a completely new experience for the viewer and make visible the methods of conservation and scholarship that are essential to any museum. \nTo learn more about this exhibition–please visit the museum’s website\, Facebook and educational sites at www.museum.wsu.edu\, www.facebook.com/museum.of.art.WSU or www.wsumuseumclass.com \nThe Museum of Art is located on Wilson Road across from Martin Stadium in the Fine Arts Center on the WSU Pullman campus. Summer gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday\, noon – 4 p.m.\, closed Saturday – Monday.  For more information please contact the museum at (509) 335-1910.
