SUMMARY:UNEARTHED READING with Local Poets
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, November 17\, join the museum and Colin Criss for a reading with local poets in response to Jim Hodges’ “Unearthed”.\nUNEARTHED READING with Local Poets\nOrganized by Colin Criss\, Assistant Professor\, Honors College\n6:00-7:00pm\nJordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU \nJim Hodges’ Unearthed (a work in progress) is a monumental bronze cast of an uprooted tree stump. The truncated form resonates with majesty while also serving as a mournful reminder of humankind’s impact upon the natural world. It has been displayed only once before\, in 2019 in Grace Cathedral in San Francisco\, where it was accompanied by rites of faith\, musical performances\, and readings\, as well as by a community’s presence\, participation\, and social interaction. Unearthed has its second residency at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at Washington State University\, providing the academic and regional community an occasion to approach the work through intentional participation. \nJoin us for a special performance series with Unearthed this fall 2026\, including music\, readings\, and dance. On Tuesday\, November 17 local writers gather at the museum to share words in response Unearthed (a work in progress) by artist Jim Hodges\, led by Honors College professor and poet Colin Criss. Participating writers include Alexandra Teague\, Michael McGriff\, Devin Becker\, Emma Perry\, Cameron McGill\, Linda Russo\, Miriam Åkervall\, and Tod Marshall. \nFree and open to the public. \nAbout | Organized by poet and Honors College Professor Colin Criss. Colin Criss teaches poetry in the Honors College at WSU. His work explores patterns and surprises—in language\, the world around us\, and the past. He also writes poems that embody these qualities\, both for himself and for his readers. His poems have appeared in Ploughshares\, Cyphers (Ireland)\, fugue\, and The Irish Times. \nImage | Olivia Alvarez \nLocation & Parking\nThe Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU is located in the Crimson Cube (on Wilson Road across from Martin Stadium and the CUB) on the WSU Pullman campus.
