SUMMARY:2021 | Art & Healing: Cello Performance 3 by Ruth Boden
DESCRIPTION:Listening Beyond Hearing: Performance by Ruth Boden and Dean Luethi\nIn conjunction with the museum’s and Pullman Regional Hospital’s Art & Healing program\, Dr. Ruth Boden and Dr. Dean Luethi will explore a meditative space\nthrough a cello and vocal performance in conversation with Trimpin’s sound sculpture Ambiente432. Visitors are encouraged to bring a yoga mat to experience this performance lying down\, or utilize chairs provided by the museum. \nTo see a video from a similar cello performance of Ruth’s in our gallery\, please click here. \nComprised of 12 motion-responsive resonator horns suspended from the ceiling and organized in strategic configurations\, Ambiente432 is tuned precisely to 432Hz. Known as Verdi’s ‘A’\, this vibration frequency recurs in the tuning of ancient Tibetan singing bowls\, Stradivarius instruments\, and 20th century physicist W. O. Schumann calculated the Earth’s rhythms at a cycle close to the fundamental frequency of 432Hz. \nAbout Ruth Boden\nDr. Ruth Boden is an Associate Professor in the School of Music at Washington State University where she teaches cello\, bass\, music theory and coordinates the chamber music program. Dr. Boden holds a B.M. and M.M. in cello performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music\, and a D.M.A. from the University of Alabama. \nAbout Dean Luethi\nDr. Dean Luethi serves as the Director of the School of Music\, Director of Choral Activities\, and Associate Professor at Washington State University. He received his B.M. in Vocal Music Education from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay\, his M.M. in Choral Conducting from the University of South Florida in Tampa\, and his D.M.A. in Choral Music from the University of Illinois – Urbana/Champaign. Before working at WSU\, Dr. Luethi was a choir and musical theatre director for high school and middle school students in the Green Bay area. He also served as a visiting instructor at the University of South Florida in Tampa. \n\nLOCATION | The  Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU is located in the Crimson Cube (on Wilson Road across from Martin Stadium and the CUB) on the WSU Pullman campus. For more information please contact the museum at 509-335-1910. The museum is currently open Tuesday through Friday from 1-4 p.m.\, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, and closed Sunday and Monday. \n\nCURRENT VISITATION RULES | Welcome visitors\, please note COVID-19 changes as of June 15\, 2021 below.\nIf you are fully vaccinated\, please show proof of vaccination as listed below to our visitor ambassadors at the main entrance.
